Specialist support to new Scottish Parliament Building

Ritchies has recently completed a £0.10 million contract for O’Rourke [Scotland] on the new Scottish Parliament Building in Edinburgh. O’Rourke [Scotland] is undertaking the concrete superstructure works package on behalf of construction manager Bovis Lend Lease.

As part of a package of works designed to provide temporary support to Canongate at the base of the Royal Mile, Ritchies has installed a 23 metre long semi-contiguous bored piled wall comprising 49, 10-metre long reinforced grouted piles. Following initial excavation, further support was provided by way of 8, 13-metre stand anchors each with a working load of 500kN. With the Scottish parliament basement slab substantially completed, these works formed the last phase of major groundworks on the project.

The drilling underway prior to the installation of one of the strand anchors, Arthur’s Seat and Edinburgh’s new Dynamic Earth Visitor Attraction form the backdrop.
