Tebodin brings cooling to Dubai

Dubai is to get district cooling, thanks to Tebodin. Tucked away behind the glistening skyscrapers on Sheikh Zayed Road – the main artery through the city – the group company is building a chilled water plant designed to ensure comfortable temperatures in the chic hotels.

In hot countries, air-conditioning is as vital as central heating in chilly northern climes. In Dubai, every building, large and small, has its own air-conditioning unit. But all that is set to change. Tabreed, a company originally involved mainly in military work, is now entering the private sector market with the offer of district cooling.

Tabreed will be piping the chilled water to the various users via an underground system of mains connected to a central pumping station. Tebodin was awarded the contract for the structural design of the building and for project management.

The whole project involves an investment of €16 million. The contract is worth half a million euros to Tebodin. Tabreed is working on an almost identical project in the neighbouring emirate of Abu Dhabi. Tebodin is involved in this project, too.
