Trailing suction hopper dredger HAM 318 launched

Rotterdam, The Netherlands – HAM, dredging and marine contractors has launched and christened its new trailing suction hopper dredger HAM 318 on 25 May 2001 at the shipyard of van der Giessen – de Noord in the Dutch town of Krimpen aan den IJssel.

The building of the ship was commissioned to IHC Holland, who is building it in cooperation with Van der Giessen – de Noord. The building of the HAM 318 involves a 90 million Euro investment.

The trailing suction hopper dredger has a hopper capacity of 23,700 cubic metres, is equipped with two dredging pipes of 1,200 millimetres in diameter each and can dredge to depths of up to 110 metres. With its totally installed power of 28,500 kW the ship can sail up to 17.3 knots. The ship can accommodate 45 crewmembers.

After being christened by Mrs. T.A.C. Loudon-Boon, wife of the President of the Supervisory Board HBG, the HAM 318 slid into the water. The ship is to be completed at the wharf of van der Giessen – de Noord in Krimpen aan den IJssel. The HAM 318 will be operational at the beginning of October 2001, when it will set sail for Singapore to work on its first project.
