Tunnel in Vienna
Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau, the German civil engineering specialist of Royal BAM Group - in consortium with two Austrian construction companies - has secured the contract for a metro tunnel in Vienna. The contract involves driving a twin-tube tunnel 1,300 metres long, with a single track in each tube, and building a metro station.
The project is part of the U2 metro line extension. The section of the new line as far as Ernst Happel Stadion, the stadium in which the final of the European Football Championships will be played in mid-2008, is scheduled for completion by the beginning of that year.
