Wicklow Wastewater Treatment Plant

Mr Michael Finneran, T D, Minister for Housing and Local Services officially opened the new Wastewater Treatment Plant in Wicklow Town, Ireland. The civils element of this DBO project was designed and built by BAM Civil and involved the construction of a new treatment plant at Knockrobin, new pumping stations at Ashford and Rathnew and the upgrading of the pumping station at the Murrough.

Construction work began in October 2007 and the plant was commissioned in February 2010 and serves Wicklow Town, Rathnew and Ashford. Veolia Water Ireland will operate and maintain the scheme for the next twenty years. The Minister said: 'The scheme will have a major positive impact on the environmental and economic quality of life in Wicklow Town and its environs and provides the infrastructure needed to cater for present and future residential and industrial development in and around the Town, while at the same time protecting the local environment.'
