Edmund Nuttall Ltd has received a major safety and environmental award from client Kimberley Clarke for its outstanding safety record whilst constructing an effluent treatment plant in Barrow in Furness.

Ritchies, the geotechnical division of Nuttall, recently completed stabilisation of a 1.5 kilometre rock cutting on the M5 motorway in North Somerset. Ritchies work included removing more than 40,000 m2 of vegetation and 150 tonnes of bulk rock removal.

Ballast Ham Dredging has begun a dredging project in the Port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. The navigation channel is being deepened and straightened to give larger ships access to the port.

Construction on the design-build project, the Thomas B. Manuel Bridge, began in December 2001 after seven months in the design phase. Misener Marine, part of HBG Constructors, was awarded the $25 million contract by the Florida Department of Transportation in March 2001.

Up to the end of May, HBG Schakel & Schrale will be working on Lange Voorhout Palace in The Hague. The restoration specialists are responsible for the placing of new wooden shutters in the back. These are part of a new climate-control system.

HBG Civiel Steel Structures has successfully completed the installation of a transformer module located off the Danish coast. The 1,000-tonne platform was lifted into place by the crane ship Asian Hercules.

Frankfurt-based energy utility Mainova is getting more than just a roof over its head. HBG’s group company Wayss & Freytag Schlüsselfertigbau is constructing an entirely new building in the city for the company. The industrial design of the building is perfectly in tune with its multifunctional character.

On formwork spanning several tracks of the Kijfhoek marshalling yard near Rotterdam, employees of the CBKK consortium are pouring a thousand cubic metres of concrete for a trough bridge. The bridge is part of the Vork Viaduct.

Rijswijk, the Netherlands - HBG, Hollandsche Beton Groep nv, confirms that Ballast Nedam has requested the Group to transfer the two-thirds interest of HBG in Ballast Ham Dredging bv to Ballast Nedam.

  • By 2004, Grupo Dragados will have invested almost 1,000 million euros in diversification activities, starting with 400 million euros this year.
  • Profits of the new Grupo Dragados will increase 30% this year to 310 million euros and total revenues will surpass 10,100 million euros.
  • The new basic lines of action: reduce costs, integrate teams and take advantage of the synergies derived from the access to HBG's markets.
  • The company acquires a stable position in the U.S.A. and Western Europe as well as in Central and Eastern Europe.
  • Dredging will provide the basis for growth in international port logistics.
  • Grupo Dragados will soon submit offers for 18 new concessions in Europe, half of them with HBG companies.

Madrid, April 18, 2002. Yesterday Grupo Dragados finalized the purchase of stock in HBG representing 98.9% of its share capital.  This buy-out means that the Dutch group will be included in Grupo Dragados' assets.

Madrid / Rijswijk – The European Commission has informed Grupo Dragados, SA that the offer it has made for Hollandsche Beton Groep nv ['HBG'] is compatible with the Common Market of the European Union and that the Commission has therefore decided to approve the transaction.

Nuttall, HBG's British civil engineering group company, has been awarded a 9.8 million-euro contract for the improvement plan on junction 15a of the M1 at Rothersthorpe. The work will involve constructing another archway under the motorway to add a second carriageway to the A43.
