On the bank of the River Meghna in Bangladesh, an enormous circular reinforcement cage has been prefabricated for one of the piers of the Bhairab Bridge, which is currently under construction. HBG's UK civil engineering company Nuttall is building this 1.2-kilometre fixed link around 80 kilometres north of the capital Dhaka.

HBG Construction has been awarded a £50.5 million design-and-construct contract by Helical Bar and the Prudential Assurance Co for a large office development adjacent to the historic former racing track at Brooklands, near Weybridge in Surrey.

The Scottish Division of Nuttall [HBG's civil engineering company in the UK] is progressing with a major strengthening contract to UB310/131 Auchtertyre viaduct, a historic five span viaduct carrying the Highland Line north from Crainlarich to Fort William.

The foundation work for the two pylons of the New Carquinez Bridge presently under construction in California has now been completed. The foot of each pylon stands on 12 tubular steel piles, three metres in diameter. The 50-metre pile casings have been drilled out to a depth of 95 metres and anchored into the bedrock.

Müller-Altvatter, part of HBG Bau, has started work in Berlin on the construction of a cylindrical marine aquarium and a parking garage. The amenities are part of the DomaQuarée Project, which combines shops, a hotel, two office buildings and an apartment block.

Rijswijk, the Netherlands – The Enterprise Section of the Court of Appeal at Amsterdam this afternoon ruled that HBG, Hollandsche Beton Groep nv, and Ballast Nedam nv could proceed with the implementation of the merger agreement relating to the dredging activities of the two companies with immediate effect. The injunction imposed by the Court on 4 July has been lifted.

In Salt Lake City, the University Light Rail Transit is running 10 months ahead of schedule, and will finish in time for the 2002 Olympic Games. This project is a joint venture between Flatiron Structures [subsidiary of HBG Constructors, Inc.], Stacy & Witbeck, Inc., and Geneva Rock. Flatiron's responsibilities include administration and IT support.

In Florida, USA, 90 miles south of Tampa a handsome new bridge spans the Myakka River. Misener Marine, the Florida subsidiary of HBG Constructors, Inc., has almost completed this $24 million project in Charlotte County.

Client for the project is HBG Properties Ltd, which was selected as preferred developer by Manchester City Council in March this year, prior to planning application being submitted.
