In Liège Galère, part of HBG Civiel, has started work on the construction of a new station on the high-speed rail link between Paris and Cologne. The project is being carried out by a joint venture on behalf of Belgian Railways. The construction period will last five years.

Cork is finally getting a proper system for disposing of its sewage. Wastewater is currently discharged at various points, almost untreated, into the River Lee, which runs through the heart of this city on the southern Irish coast. Thanks to the efforts of Ascon and Nuttall, among others, this situation will soon be a thing of the past.

On a large, 19 hectare site close to Junction 4a of the M3 motorway near Camberley, IT giant Sun Microsystems is in the process of establishing a major office and laboratory complex. And HBG Construction is busy working on the second and third of the three-phase project, having completed Phase I in September 2000.

Rijswijk, the Netherlands – HBG, Hollandsche Beton Groep nv, confirms that the company has today received a cash bid of €570 million for HAM, Hollandsche Aanneming Maatschappij bv, from Royal Boskalis Westminster nv. HBG will be studying this bid carefully, taking account of the interests of all stakeholders.

HBG Construction has been awarded two further contracts, valued together at over £5.0 million, at The Thistles Shopping Centre, a city centre-shopping mall in Stirling. The awards follow on from the recent £6.9 million-mall refurbishment project carried out by HBG Construction for the same client, Standard Life Investments, at the same location.

Ballast Nedam and HBG will merge their dredging activities into a new joint venture that will be made up of Ballast Nedam Baggeren bv [BNB] and Hollandsche Aanneming Maatschappij bv [HAM]. Ballast Nedam and HBG have signed a memorandum of understanding, as a result of intensive negotiations conducted in recent months. The Boards of Management and Supervisory Boards of HBG and Ballast Nedam, as well as the management of both dredging companies fully support the joint venture.

Misener Marine [HBG Constructors] has been awarded a $26.5 million design/ build contract by the Florida Department of Transportation to build a 915 metre long bridge and roadway approaches. The project is located near Stuart, Florida, approximately 200 kilometres north of Miami, in the Florida Turnpike, a toll road.

HAM Dredging has ordered large trailing suction hopper dredger from IHC Holland. The vessel will have a hopper capacity of 23,700 m3 and a dead weight of 40,360 tons.
