HBG Construction has started building the £7.0 million Birley Fields office development as part of a major regeneration scheme for Hulme and Moss Side, Manchester. Client for the project is HBG Properties Ltd, which was selected as preferred developer by Manchester City Council in March this year, prior to planning application being submitted.

Oily slicks on the River Calder at Mirfield are set to be a thing of the past. Officials believe hundreds of thousands of litres of creosote from a tar works soaked into the ground between the 1920s and 1974. Nuttall, HBG's civil engineering company in the UK, has put in a drainage system to stop the flow of creosoto in to the river and driven 150 metres of metal sheets piles in to the river bank to create a dam.

Rijswijk, the Netherlands – Interbeton bv – the group company of HBG, Hollandsche Beton Groep nv, operating outside Western Europe – has been awarded the contract for the extension of a jetty and the realisation of a cool water installation for new production facilities of the Qatar Fertiliser Company [QAFCO] in the city of Mesaieed, approximately forty kilometres south of Doha. The contract value amounts to US$ 20 million.

HBG Construction has been awarded a £1.7 million design and construct contract by Slough Estates Plc for a new office building at the Centennial Park development in Elstree, Herts.

Interbeton has been awarded the contract for the internal upgrade of the new Sheikh Rashid Terminal at Dubai International Airport. Client is the Department of Civil Aviation Dubai. The contract value is € 10 million.

HBG Construction has started work on the design and construction of a new office development in Forbury Square, close to the centre of Reading. The £22 million scheme involves two main office buildings, a large basement car park and a new public square being constructed on the site of an old abbey and bounded by existing offices.

Flatiron Structures [a subsidiary of HBG Constructors] has acquired a joint venture design and build contract for a cable-stayed bridge over Cooper River between Charleston and Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. When completed in 2005, the bridge will be the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America. The contract value amounts to US$531 million, of which 40% is for HBG.
