First tunnelling machine breaks ground on super sewer

Camberley, 28 October 2019 - BAM Nuttall, alongside its joint venture partners Morgan Sindall and Balfour Beatty, has seen one of their two tunnelling boring machines (TBM) become the first to break through the ground to complete a section of tunnel for London’s new super sewer.

Hemel Hempstead, 25 October 2019 - After 20 years of standing derelict, Port Talbot Cinema finally sees contractors arrive on site to commence its delicate restoration. BAM Construction is beginning works under a pre-contract agreement with Neath Port Talbot Council to re-develop the grade II listed art deco building that was once frequented by Anthony Hopkins and Richard Burton.

BAM partners pioneering study of flexible working in construction sector

Camberley / Hemel Hempstead, 25 October 2019 - Two of Britain’s largest contractors - behind major schemes such as the British Antarctic Survey and the British headquarters for Facebook - have combined to assist a pioneering study into flexible working on construction sites. The two sister companies – BAM Nuttall and BAM Construct UK–– have a shared turnover of around £1.6 billion and a collectively employs over 5,000 people. They are throwing their weight behind a study (the construction pioneers programme) which is the first of its kind in the construction industry and is being led and co-ordinated by industry body Build UK together with workplace consultancy Timewise. Two further construction companies are part of the study which will lead to recommendations that are expected to shape the whole industry’s future approach to the subject.

Liefkenshoek rail tunnel refinancing (Locorail n.v.)

Bunnik, the Netherlands, 18 October 2019 - BAM PPP have, on behalf of the 100% sponsor BAM PPP-PGGM, successfully refinanced the Liefkenshoek rail tunnel €580m of debt and associated interest swaps with the following existing lenders – European Investment Bank, BNG Bank, Société Générale, Banco Santander and the new lenders AG Insurance and Baloise Belgium. Société Générale is also acting as Agent and Account Bank.

(Translation of original Dutch press release of Rijkswaterstaat:) IJmuiden, the Netherlands, 10 October 2019 - Rijkswaterstaat has achieved an important milestone in the construction of the new sea lock in IJmuiden. The second caisson of the sea lock has reached its final position. The doors of the lock will slide in and out of the caisson on the canal side (inner lock head) and it will also include the spare door.

Gap closed between Pastetten and Heldenstein | A94 now open between Munich and Marktl

30 September 2019 - After 44 months of construction time, the A94 between Pastetten and Heldenstein is due to be completed by the end of September 2019, a month earlier than planned. The newly constructed 33-km section of the Isen Valley motorway, which has been built by a public-private partnership (PPP), is scheduled to be opened to traffic at the start of October 2019. The successful realisation of the construction project has been carried out by a consortium consisting of Berger Bau SE, Eiffage Infra-Bau SE and Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG, an operating company of Royal BAM Group.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ turn clock back 70 years by appointing historic contractor to build new cancer wards

Hemel Hempstead, 1 October 2019 - Four brand new cancer wards are being created for Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust – which has chosen a contractor that first worked at Guy’s Hospital 70 years ago in 1949. BAM Construction, part of the worldwide Royal BAM Group, has been chosen to deliver the works which will see four new wards added to the third and fourth floors of Bermondsey Wing, and extensive mechanical, electrical and pipework upgrades.
